Description

KCN is a crystalline substance, readily soluble in water, and a highly potent cellular poison.
It is used in gelatin capsules exclusively for criminal, intelligence, and military purposes to avoid contact with skin and mucous membranes during storage.
The capsules ensure rapid release of the substance in the stomach, causing immediate fatal poisoning.
It is not used in conventional medicine or industry in encapsulated form.

An extremely toxic compound.

It primarily blocks the cytochrome oxidase enzyme in the mitochondrial respiratory chain.

Oxygen supply to cells is cut off, causing tissue hypoxia.

Death occurs due to respiratory and cardiac arrest.

HCN vapors released from the capsule upon damage are also lethal.

Lethal Dose:
• For an adult - 50-100 mg.
• One capsule contains 150 mg.
• Even half the capsule\'s contents can cause death within minutes.

Time to Death:
• 30 seconds to 3 minutes after ingestion.
• The rate of death depends on stomach fullness and the integrity of the capsule.
• Death occurs from respiratory paralysis, cardiac arrest, convulsions, and coma.

• Sudden weakness, dizziness, disorientation.
• Burning sensation in the mouth and throat, metallic or almond-like odor.
• Rapid breathing, then a sharp slowdown.
• Convulsions, loss of consciousness, pink-red tint of the skin.
• Rapid respiratory and cardiac arrest.
• Autopsy reveals thin, bright red blood, an almond-like odor, and pulmonary and cerebral edema.

It is found in the blood, stomach, brain, liver, and lungs.

Methods: spectrophotometry, ion chromatography, Picrate reaction (producing a red color), GC-MS.

Characteristic signs of death:
• Cherry-red spots
• Cerebral and pulmonary edema
• Almond odor (not detectable by 40% of people)
• Traces of gelatin in the stomach, traces of HCN in the gas phase of gastric contents
It persists in tissues for up to 1-2 days, then evaporates.

Store in a tightly sealed bottle, away from air and acids.
Shelf life: no more than 6 months if completely sealed.
