Description

C12H4Cl4O2 is a member of the polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDD) group, a highly potent persistent organic toxin.
It is not produced intentionally, but rather forms as a byproduct in the production of herbicides, organochlorine compounds, pulp bleaching, and waste and plastic incineration.
It has no domestic use.
It is known as “Vietnamese poison” and was a component of the herbicide Agent Orange, used by the United States in Vietnam.

One of the most toxic synthetic substances.

A cumulative poison: it accumulates in fatty tissue, liver, and skin, and is not eliminated for decades.

It acts at the cellular level, disrupting metabolism, enzymes, and hormones, damaging DNA.

Causes cancer, mutations, endocrine disorders, and birth defects.

Fatal in microgram doses.

Lethal dose:
For humans, 1-2 mg/kg of body weight.

Time to death:
In acute poisoning, it takes 1-3 weeks.

In chronic poisoning, it develops gradually, causing damage to the liver, skin, nervous system, and endocrine organs.

With repeated exposure, cumulative effects are possible, leading to a fatal outcome over months.

Signs of poisoning:
• Nausea, weakness, loss of appetite
• Headaches, muscle pain, cramps
• Skin lesions - dioxin acne (chloracne)
• Jaundice, liver enlargement, kidney failure
• Impotence in men, menstrual irregularities in women
• In severe cases - exhaustion, nervous system damage, cancer
• In the chronic stage - cachexia, depression, complete loss of immunity

It is detected in adipose tissue, liver, blood, breast milk, and skin.
Methods: gas chromatography with mass spectrometry (GC-MS), HPLC, and ELISA.
Traces persist for decades.
Pathological findings include liver enlargement, skin lesions, organ degeneration, and tumor changes.

Store only in sealed glass ampoules.
Shelf life: up to 10 years in airtight conditions.
