Description

C39H54N10O14 is a cyclic octopeptide, the primary toxin of the death cap (Amanita phalloides), as well as the mushrooms Amanita virosa, Galerina marginata, and Lepiota.
It has no medical or industrial applications.
In laboratory settings, it is used to study RNA polymerase II inhibition and transcription processes.

Amatoxins are extremely potent hepatotoxins.
They block RNA polymerase II in liver cells, stopping protein synthesis, which causes hepatocyte necrosis and acute liver failure.

They are highly toxic when ingested; they are resistant to heat and acids.

A single death cap mushroom contains a lethal dose of poison.

Lethal dose:
For humans, approximately 0.1 mg/kg, equivalent to 5-7 mg of pure toxin.

Time of death:
Death can occur 7-10 days after poisoning, and in severe cases, within 3-5 days.

Death is associated with acute liver and kidney failure.

Signs of poisoning:
• Latent period (6-24 hours): no symptoms.
• Gastrointestinal stage (days 1-2): severe vomiting, abdominal pain, watery diarrhea (up to 30 times per day), dehydration.
• False improvement (days 2-3): symptoms subside, but liver damage begins.
• Hepatic stage (days 3-7): jaundice, convulsions, hypoglycemia, bleeding, hallucinations, coma.

Detected in urine, blood, liver, kidneys, and gastric contents.
Methods: HPLC, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), mass spectrometry.
Traces persist in urine for up to 4 days, and in the liver for up to 10 days.
Pathology: massive liver necrosis, hemorrhage, renal tubular degeneration.

Store in a tightly sealed container.
Avoid moisture and light.
Shelf life: up to 3 years.
